A Terumah Or An Offering, Freely Given From The Heart Text: Ex 25 Preface: This week’s torah portion {Ex 25:1 - 27:19} is titled "terumah," which means offering, or donation. With that said, when the children of Israel left Egypt. The Egyptians were so desperate for the Israelites to leave, that the Egyptians laden the Israelites, with silver and gold. Ps 105:37 That said, according to Jewish historian Josephus, Pharaoh’s army consisted of fifty thousand horses, and two hundred thousand solders. Though not one of them remained alive, in order to carry the news, of their defeat back to Egypt. I mention these facts, because after the sea had drowned the Egyptians. According to the sages, every mourning the Israelites, awaking to find the tide had washed ashore, chariots embossed with diamonds and precious stones, attached to them. With such riches washing ashore each mourning, the people didn’t want to leave. Hence when the children of Israel left Egypt, they carried with them, the riches of Egypt. It is against this background, that this week’s torah portion open up by saying, "speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering." Ex 25:2 The following Hebrew word for willingly nadab," means volunteer or freely. I alluded to this fact because after the Lord had laden the Israelites, with the riches of Egypt. He asked of them to make a donation, freely from their hearts. So, what are we to gleam from this? Well, upon receiving the commandments of the Lord, the people said, "whatever He say, we will do." {Ex 24:3} I alluded to this fact, because one of the reasons why, the Lord laden the Israelites, with the riches of Egypt. Was the Lord wanted to establish, where’s the Israelites hearts were? In other words the Lord wanted to establish, where their allegiance lie, was it in their riches or in Him? In turn the Lord asked, "wherever hearts prompts or urges him to make an offering, they shall make an offering. That said, the Lord could have commanded the people to render Him a donation willingly. Though the Lord wanted to establish, where their allegiance lie? The offering in question here, signifies anything that was lifted up, to be laid on the alter. This type of offering, was known as a "heave offering." Why did I mention this? When Adam and Eve chose not to disobey the Lord’s commandment that being not to eat from "the fruit of good and evil." Mankind was sentenced to spend an eternity in "sheol,"or hell. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Though according to John, G-d ’s love compelled Him to offer up His only begotten Son. That said, remember when the Lord asked the people, who were compelled to render Him a "heave offering," or a donation. This is significant, because the Lord wasn’t asking, no more of them, than what He would do in the future for them, for example. G-d’s love compelled Him to render up a "heave offering" on the alter for our sins. The alter being, the Cross, and "the heave offering" was Yeshua, who was nailed to the Cross, for our sins. Remember Yeshua said, "I and the Father are One." {John 10:30 } This is meaningful, because when the Lord asked the people, who were compelled to render Him a "heave offering," to build a Tabernacle. Those who did so, made a "heave offering" to Yeshua. That said, prior to striking a tent in the flesh, Yeshua was ruling and reigning, with the Father in heaven. {John 18:36 } Though just as G-d’s love compelled Him to offer up a "heave offering" that being Yeshua, for our sins. Yeshua’s love compelled Him to forego the riches of heaven, in order to offer Himself up as a "heave offering," for our sins. As I said earlier, the Almighty could have commanded the people to render Him a donation. Though instead He asked the people, who were compelled to from their hearts, to render unto Him a donation. Why is this significant? Well, it was the love of G-d that compelled a person to render up a "heave offering," or donation to G-d. In light of this fact Yeshua said, "if you love Me, keep My commandments." {John 14:15 } And the Lord’s commandment stated, if a person’s heart, compelled him to render up a "heave offering. Then they should do so. Expounding on this thounght the Lord, asked the people, who were compelled from their hearts, to render unto Him a donation. This is noteworthy, because it is "with the mouth that a person confess, Yeshua is Lord. Though in order to be saved, they must also believe in their hearts that G-d raised Yeshua from the died.{ Rom 10:9 } What am I trying to say here, you ask? Well, the heart play a key role in both instances, for example. A person didn’t make an offering, unless the love of G-d in his heart, compelled him to. Likewise a person can not be saved, unless they confess, Yeshua is Lord and believe in their hearts that G-d raised Yeshua from the died. So, the heart play a key role in salvation. Moving on the Tabernacle, in Hebrew, is called the "mishkan," more commonly known as sanctuary, or dwelling place. I alluded to this fact, because the purpose in the people making a donation, unto the Lord from their hearts, was to make the Lord a dwelling place. Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. Ex 25:8 Note the Lord does not say, I will dwell within it,{the mishkan} but I will dwell within the midst of them. Expounding on this thought it should be noted, the Hebrew word for among "tavek," imply "in the midst." Whereas the Hebrew word for dwelling "shakan," mean "to lodge." Why is this fact meaningful? Well bearing in mind, it was and is impossible for sinful man to look, upon a holy G-d and live. The sanctuary was a designated place, in which G-d in all of His glory, could come and lodge, in the midst of the people. Again building material for the "mishkan" or Tabernacle, were to be given as a "terumah," or a "heave offering." This is significant, because the Hebrew word "terumah," is derived from the Hebrew root word "reish-vav-mem," meaning "to be exalted, or lifted up." You might say then, the "terumah," or the freewill offerings, were set apart for a higher purpose. Such as our tithes should be today. Because likewise our tithes, should be given freely from the heart, in order to exalt the Lord. The Lord’s instruction in building the Tabernacle, were given in a set of six instructions, with each instruction beginning with, "the Lord spoke to Moses." That said the Tabernacle, was created in six days. In light of this the sages offer, the following insight in the building of the Tabernacle. They state and rightfully so, the story of creation unfolded in six days. With each day beginning with, "and the Lord spoke." Though there is a seventh section, and it pertains to "the law of the Sabbath." On the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Gen 2:2 Echoing the fact, the Lord made the heavens, and earth in six days. Then on the seventh day, the Lord rested. In turn the Lord blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on the seventh day, the Lord rested from His labor. Gen 2:3 Based on the fact, that identical to the creation, the Tabernacle was created in six days. The sages state, the "mishkan," or the Tabernacle, was more than a portable tent, it was a whole new universe, only in another dimension. At the center of this universe, was "the Holy of Holies," where the Ark of the Covenant, resided at. The dimension of the Ark of the Covenant, was 2 ½ cubits long, 1 ½ cubits wide, and 1 ½ cubits deep. In explaining why, the Ark of the Covenant was made in fractions? The sages state, the Ark of the Covenant was made in fractions, indicating that no matter how much a person studies the torah. They will never masters its whole; because the torah is "broader than the sea." { Job 11:9 } Knowing this "a righteous man, will meditate of the law day and night." Ps 1:2 Within the Ark of the Covenant itself, were found three items, which alludes to Yeshua. The first item were the two stones, with the Ten Commandments written on them.{ Ex 25:16} The second item, was the golden pot of manna, in which God miraculously preserved, as a testimony to future generations. {Ex 16:32 - 34} The third item in the ark, was Aaron’s rod that budded to prove that Aaron was God's chosen. Num 17:1 - 11 With that said Yeshua said, "if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?" {John 5:46-47 } So how and where did Moses write of Yeshua, in the text? Well first of all, remember Moses placed the two tablets of stones, in which the Ten Commandments was written on in the Ark, for future generations. This is meaningful because Yeshua said, "if you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15 In turn the two tablets of stones, with the Ten Commandments written on them, were written by Yeshua Himself. Expounding on this thought, it was Yeshua, who uttered the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. Prompting Yeshua to say, "if you love me, keep my commandments." Remember some of the manna in which the Lord rained down from heaven, was placed in a golden pot. Then the pot, was placed in the Ark of the Covenant. It is against this background that Yeshua said, "I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." John 6:48-51 So, just as the manna fell down from heaven, each night. {Num 11:9 } Likewise "the bread of life," came down from heaven, in order to redeem mankind. Prompting Yeshua to say, "I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness." The third item that was placed within the ark of the covenant, was Aaron’s rod that budded, in order to prove that Aaron was G-d's chosen one. {Num 17:1 - 11 } How does Aaron’s rod, allude to Yeshua, you ask? Well the Lord toke a died piece of wood in Aaron’s rod, and return it to life. This is symbolical of the miracle Yeshua preformed, when Yeshua resurrected Lazarus from the died. John 11: 43 - 44 With that said, should be pointed out that in the room abjection to the "the Holy of Holies." There against the wall, stood the table of showbread, to the right of the alter. {Ex 25:30} On the table of showbread, were found 12 loaves of bread that were baked every Friday, prior to the Sabbath. Miraculously, the Showbread remained fresh, the entire week! It was lawful for only the priests, to consume the Showbread. Hence, when the old loaves were replaced, the priest consumed the Showbread. Thus, concerning the freshness of the Showbread. Remember how the Almighty rained down manna from heaven each night. {Ps 78:24} Ensuring the Israelites picked up fresh manna, or bread each mourning. Thus, the manna from heaven and the Showbread is detail thematically links to Yeshua. Expounding on the Showbread, there were 12 loaves of bread, with a loave for each tribe, found on the table of showbread. I mention this fact, because the 12 loaves of bread, foreshadow an event in Yeshua’ s life. How so, you ask? Remember how after Yeshua miraculously, fed the five thousands, with five loaves of bread and two fish. The disciples gathered up "twelve baskets of pieces of bread," from among the five thousands. John 6:13 This is significant because Yeshua said,"I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness." Implying the twelves loaves of bread, and the twelve baskets of pieces of bread are interlinked and they conform Yeshua’s identity, as the Messiah. According to {Ex 25:24} the table of showbread, had a crown of gold around it. Why is this meaningful? Briefly Yeshua is the coming King. {Rev 19:16 } Therefore the table of showbread, foreshadow "the King of kings," Yeshua Messiah. Moving on the Lord instructed Moses to encase the ark of the covenant, in pure gold. Though for the top, the Lord commanded Moses make a mercy seat of pure gold; two and a half cubits shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its width. Then the Lord commanded Moses, to make two cherubim {winged angels} of gold, and placed the cherubim oppose one another, with their wings outstretched, over the Mercy Seat. The LORD reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! Ps 99:1Then the Lord added, there I will meet with you and I will speck with you, above the Mercy Seat. {Ex 25:17 - 22} Though, it is impossible for G-d to look upon sinful man, and sinful man live return. So what is the answer? Well the two Temples, were pattern after the Tabernacle. I alluded to this fact, because upon entering the outer court, of the temple of all of the furnishings, the alter was front and center. Why? Well, the first thing a person is confronted, with when approaching the presence of G-d, rather it was in biblical times, or today. Is the alter, where sacrifice for sins occurred. Thus, the reason why, the alter was front and center, was because the alter, was where the sacrifice for sin occurred, before communing with the Lord. That said, only the High Priest on the day of Atonement, went behind the veil, into the Holy of Holies, to offer up a sacrifice. {Heb 9:3 } In doing so, he sprinkled blood of a bull, seven times on the Mercy Seat, for the sins of the peoples. {Lev 16: 14 - Heb 9:7 } Though before the High Priest did, he offered up a sacrifice for himself. Lev 16:12 There is an old Jewish teaching which states, "the Lord intended to establish a Tabernacle, in men’s heart. Where He could come and commune with man. Though when the people, lusted after evil things in the wilderness, by making the golden calf. The Lord deemed that because of man’s wickedness, man was not ready to commune one on one with G-d." However fifty days after Yeshua died as an atonement, for man’s sins on the alter.{the Cross} The Holy Spirit, which is the spirit of G-d came down, in order to dwell within man.{Acts 1:8 , 2:4} So, what happen between the wilderness, and the Cross? Well, Yeshua gave His life, as a sacrifice for our sins. Thus whoever accept Yeshua as their Lord and Savor, the Lord’s deems righteous. Making it possible for Holy G-d to dwell within man. In closing, remember how the High Priest on the day of Atonement, offered up a sacrifice for the people. Well upon Yeshua’s death on the Cross. Yeshua assumed the role of the High Priest, {Heb 9:11 } and He is now presently sitting, at the right hand of the Father. Where He is making intercessions to the Father, for our sins. Rom 8:34 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: May the LORD bless you and keep you. May the LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you. May the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." Num 6:22- 26 |
