They Will Run In The City, Likewise They Will Run On The Walls Text: Ex 10:1 - 24, Joel 2:3 - 9 , Rev 9:1 - 10 Preface: This week’s torah portion, open with the Lord commanding Moses to "go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them." { Ex 10:1} That said, the Hebrew word for go is "bo" and "bo is used throughout this week’s portion. Hence, explaining why, this week’s portion is entitled, "bo." This week’s portion describe the final plagues that compelled Pharaoh to let Hebrews to go. With that said, G-d’s word "declares the end from the beginning." {Isa. 46:10 } In turn I want to briefly comint on these plagues, in order to demonstrate, how they are similar to plagues, mention in the book of Revelation. The eighth plague starts out with Moses and Aaron going before Pharaoh and saying, "how long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me. If you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory." Ex 10:3-4 Throughout this week’s and last week’s torah portion, we are presented with sharp contrast, for example. Moses’s mother placed baby Moses in an ark made of bulrushes in the Nile river. {Ex 2:3} In turn Moses’s name means, "to draw forth." Implying Moses was drawn or lifted out of the water. {Ex 3:5} By contrast the Almighty elected to present Himself to Moses, in a burning bush, in which the fire could not consume. {Ex 3:2} So here we have a picture of water, coming in contact with fire and the fire was not extinguished. To expound on this thought even further, remember G-d’s word depict Moses as being, "the most humblest man on earth." {Num 12:3 } I mention this fact, because here is the Lord asking Pharaoh, who was the most powerful man in the world of his day. "How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?" Through Moses, who was a lowly shepherd. {Ex 3:1} Can you discern the mark contrast here? Here we have fire mixing with water, and still remind burning. So to here we have "the most humblest man on earth." Demanding that Pharaoh, who was the most powerful man in the world of his day, " let the people go." Moving on when Pharaoh refuse to, Moses then informed Pharaoh what he should expect by saying, "they {the locusts} shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one shall be able to see the land. They shall also eat the rest of what has escaped — what is left to you from the hail — and they shall eat every tree which sprouts for you out of the field. Then your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians, something which neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day that they came upon the earth until this day.' "And he turned and went out from Pharaoh." Ex 10:5-6 Briefly Moses stated, the sheer number of the locusts would cover the land, making it impossible to view the land. What vegetation had survived the hail, the locusts would devour it. Then to make matters worse, the houses will become infected with them. Upon hearing this Pharaoh’s servants asked Pharaoh, "how long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not realize that Egypt is destroyed?" Ex 10:7 That said, I find it interesting that Pharaoh’s servants alluded to Moses as being a snare. When it was Pharaoh, who by harden his heart, who was a snare. Thus I’m remindful, "by transgression an evil man is snared, But the righteous sings and rejoices." Prov 29:6 You would have thought after eight plagues, Pharaoh would have relinquish and let the people go. Though, on the basic that women and children didn’t offer up sacrifices, Pharaoh refused to allow the women and children to go. {Ex 10:11} In turn the Lord informed Moses to stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. And the locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt; they were very numerous. There had never been so many locusts, nor would there be so many again. For they covered the surface of the whole land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothing green was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt. Ex 10:13-15 In not allowing the women and children to go, Pharaoh wasn’t willing to meet the Lord’s commandment half way. I mention this fact, because I’m remindful Yeshua said, "because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth." {Rev 3:16 } Implying the Lord is looking for someone, who is fully committed. A east wind in turn blew, the plague of locusts from Arabia and beyond into Egypt. Why is this significant, you ask? Well, I find this fact interesting, because the terrorists of 9/11, hailed from Saida Arabia. And you could say, the destruction they left behind, was liken unto a plague. Moving on Pharaoh then summoned Aaron and Moses and said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you. Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and make supplication to the LORD your God, that He would only remove this death from me." Ex 10:16-17 Pharaoh’s statement here is proof that forgiveness and repentance go hand in hand. Because upon completion of Pharaoh’s statement, Moses intervene to the Lord on Pharaoh’s behalf. In turn the Lord sifted the east wind to the west, which blew the locust away. {Ex 10: 18 -19} However the following Hebrew word for harden "chazaq" imply to amend. This is meaningful because instead of being thankful, Pharaoh harden his heart again and refused to allow the people to go. Ex 10: 20 In turn the Lord instructed Moses to stretch out his hands towards heaven, then there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. So, Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. Ex 10:21 - 22 Words of wisdom: I’m remindful of the following Chinese Proverb, "it is better to light the candle than to curse the darkness." That’s Light is Yeshua! John 9:5 Though, this was no ordinary darkness, for example. The following Hebrew word for darkness used here "choshek," imply misery and sorrow. I mention this fact, because the darkness was so oppressive that for three days, no one moved about. With that said, the root word for "choshek," means "to with hold light." Why is this significant? Well, when Moses stretched out his hands towards heaven. The Almighty, who is the Ruler of the universe, with held the light. He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His word. Ps 105:28 Though by contrast, there was light in Hebrew dwellings places. {Ex 10:23} How could this be? Well, light and darkness reflect upon conditions of interior space, for example. Two people can experience a beautiful sunset. In turn the beautiful sunset, may evoke a sense of an awareness of G-d, in one. While the other person, doesn’t even think of G-d. One person may experience overwhelming joy by an event, while another person may experience overwhelming sadness, all from the same event. Words of wisdom: "Don’t forget in the darkness, what G-d had told you in the light." That said, remember Joseph settled Jacob and his family, in the land of Goshen.{Gen 46:23 } However the text doesn’t say, there was light in the land of Goshen, but it does say, there was light in their dwellings places. Implying the light shone from within, not from without. Meaning the light didn’t radiate from the sun, nor from torches. The light radiated in the Hebrew. Thus, I’m remindful Yeshua said, "let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matt 5:16 Though the darkness was so thick, in Egypt that the Egyptians did not see each other for three days, nor did anyone leave his home. {Ex 10:23} Prompting Pharaoh to summon Moses and state, "go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your little ones may go with you." Ex 10:24 Why did an oppressive darkness come upon the Egyptians, while the Israelites were in the light? Well, namely because the Egyptians worshiped pagan gods. While the Israelites worshiped, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He who ignores Yeshua as their Lord and Savior walks in darkness, and he who accept Yeshua as their Lord and Savior, walks in an illuminated light. Remember I stated earlier, it is my intension to demonstrate, how these two plagues are similar to a plague, mention in the book of Revelation, for example. John writes when the fifth angel sounded, a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Rev 9:1-2 Who is the star that John alludes to? Remember in relating how, Satan fell from heaven that Isaiah alluded Satan as "the mourning star." {Isa 14:12 } This is meaningful, because when John witnessed this star, it was not falling, but already fallen. In turn already fallen, Satan will open the bottomless pit, then thick smoke will arise from the pit. Smoke so thick that the sun’s rays will not penetrate the earth. In turn the earth will be engulf in total darkness. Then in this darkness John wrote, out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. Rev 9:3-4 So, in the midst of this darkness, swarm of locusts will come out of the pit too. Only these locusts will be unique in that like scorpions, they will have the power to inflict pain, upon men. But the 144, 000, who have the seal of G-d, written in their foreheads, will be off limit to them. In depicting these locusts John writes, they were not given authority to kill men, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. Rev 9:5 Whereas darkness covered Egypt for three days. Darkness will cover the earth for five months, during the end of the age. Though during this time, locusts will inflict pain upon men. In turn men will seek death and will not find it. Meaning they will desire to die and death will flee from them. Rev 9:6 Concerning the locusts John writes, "the shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months." Rev 9:7-10 I have often heard individuals in teaching on the book of Revelation state, John was attempting to describe helicopters, in using the term locusts. Though, this logic doesn’t hold water because John also states, these locusts appear from the bottomless pit. This is noteworthy because a group of angels, who rebelled with Satan are bond by chains in darkness, where they are being held for the last days. {Jude 6 } Why is this significant? It my belief that instead helicopters, these locusts are these fallen angels, who are being held in chains, to be release in the last days. So, these locusts are not helicopters, but demons bound in chain, until this set time. Moving on the prophet Amos states that, "the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets." {Amos 3:7 } I alluded to this verse, because in depicting "the day of the Lord," the prophet Joel depicts "the day of the Lord," this way. "A day of darkness and doom. A fire consumed them and behind them a flame burns. The land is like the garden of Eden before them, But a desolate wilderness behind them, And nothing at all escapes them." Joel 2:3 So, the prophet Joel conforms John’s vision by saying, the locusts will be so numerous that they will cover the rays of the sun, causing darkness on earth. Though Joel adds, before the appearance of the locusts, the land will be green with vegetation, as the garden of Eden was. However the locusts will strip the land of it’s vegetation, by eating every green plaint in sight. Then Joel goes on to state, the appearance of these locusts, are liken unto war horses. {Joel 2:4 } Having said that, remember thick darkness will engulf the earth, during this time frame. Making it impossible for a person, to view these locusts. Though, when they fly, the sheer number of these locusts {demons,} will sound like galloping horses in battle. How do I know? Well G-d’s word states, "with a noise as of chariots They leap on the tops of the mountains, Like the crackling of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, Like a mighty people arranged for battle." Joel 2:5 When these swarm of locusts fly, their wings will create a loud sound. A sound liken unto thundering of many horses, pulling chariots in battle. {Rev 9:9 } In hearing this distressful sounds in the darkness, while feeling their stings at the same time. Fear will descend on the people. In turn individuals will seek death, but death will escape them. Rev 9:6 Like a well drilled army, these locusts will advance in columns, not deviating out of line. In advancing, they do not crowd each other. Even when they bust through defenses, they do not break ranks. {Joel 2: 8 } Thus I’m remindful when Paul alluded to the falling angels that he did so, by breaking them into ranks. "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Eph 6:12 There is a Messianic song, who lyres goes something like this, "they ran in the city, they ran on the wall." Now in hearing the lyres of this song, a person might think, the writer of this song is alluding to the walls of Jericho. Or some other ancient city, in Israel. However the writer is alluding to Joel, who state of the locusts, "they run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall. They climb into the houses, They enter at the windows like a thief." Joel 2:9 In summery the locusts will run in the city, then they run upon the walls. Then they will enter into houses like a thief, from the windows. Bearing in mind, it is under the cover of darkness that will they do this sinister deeds. Hence, Joel here liken the locusts, to thieves in the night. That said, often when Yeshua taught, He did so by alluding to the torah within His teachings. Occasionally He may have alluded to the book of the prophets, as well. I mention this fact, because in reading, {Joel 2:9 } my mind raced back in times to one of Yeshua’s teaching. Yeshua said, "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." {John 10:9 } Implying those who seek salvation through Yeshua, will obtain it. Yeshua then said, {and this is the statement that I thought of.} "the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. {John 10:10 } Why is this significant? Well, remember Yeshua occasionally alluded to the book of the prophets, when teaching. Why is significant? Well, the locusts are Satan’s agents, who will come out of the bottomless pit to steal and to destroy, at the end of the age. Thus, Yeshua is alluding, to the prophet Joel, here in His teaching. In closing remember upon seeing the lamb’s blood on the doorposts, the death angel past over the household, sparing the first born inside. {Ex 12:23} I mention this fact, because the blood of the Lamb of G-d, will likewise prevent individuals from being victims of these horrifying locusts. A closing thought: I hadn’t mention current events in the Middle East, for a number of weeks now. Though, I can’t allow this week to past by, without doing so. When Moses went before Pharaoh and said, "the LORD God of the Hebrews: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me." {Ex 10:3} According to the sages, Pharaoh turned to his advisors and ordered them, to search the list of pagan gods, for Yehovah, the G-d of the Hebrews? When Pharaoh’s advisors failed to find Yehovah, the G-d of the Hebrews, written in the book of record. Pharaoh turned to Moses and said, "I do not know the G-d of the Hebrews." Hence the primary reason why, the Lord redeemed the children of Israel, the way that He did. Was because the Lord wanted Pharaoh and all of Egypt to know, that He is Lord. {Ex 10:2} How does this relate to this week’s events? Well on the very day that President Bush said, he is confident that the Israelis and the Palestinians, will reach a peace deal in 2008. Powerful thunderstorms ripped through the southeast, killing hundred of people in it’s wake and leaving a large path of destruction behind. How does this relate to President Bush’s statement? Specking of Abraham and his descendants the Lord said, "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Gen 12:3 } That said, in order for President Bush’s statement to become reality, under the plain currently on the table, over half of the land of Israel, will become under Palestinians control. Bear in mind, this is the same land G-d gave Abraham and his descendants for a everlasting possession. {Gen 17:8 } In turn when President Bush made his statement. The Almighty sent powerful storms, which are rare for the dead of winter. In order to voice His displeasure and to testify the Lord of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who gave Abraham and his descendants the land, for a everlasting possession, is still sitting on the throne. Ps 110:1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: May the LORD bless you and keep you. May the LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you. May the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." Num 6:22- 26 |
